In today’s edition of Actual Mistakes Published in Actual Books: if you’ve been paying attention to this blog over the past 15 months, you will understand why I think this photo of ‘Wetherby’ is so hilarious. (And if you haven’t been paying attention, it’s because that’s a picture of Knaresborough.)
I mentioned yesterday that living here has made me a much better photographer than I was before I got here. I’m chalking this up to two factors: one, I’ve taken so many pictures I was bound to pick up a few things along the way. Two, when you use my point-and-shoot on manual mode, any changes you make to the settings are immediately visible on the viewfinder screen. People freak out when they turn my camera on and the screen is entirely black or white, but I love it because it’s helped me understand the technical principles of photography more than fumbling around with a DSLR. But I am super happy and proud to announce that these pictures were all taken with my DSLR set on manual mode and the only thing I was really terrible at was setting the white balance, so that’s my next challenge. I wouldn’t say these are all my favorite pictures I’ve ever taken, but I’m proud of them and excited about them because I took them all purposefully.
